Call me the independent type

April 5th, 2006

I have a headache problem, and I’m not sure what causes it. This week, I think it is a combination of daylight savings time, my new birth control, and allergies. Whatever the case, these things seriously put a damper in my life’s agenda.

Yesterday, on my way to the gym on campus, I developed one such headache, but I decided to workout anyway. I don’t want to be one of those people who’s lives totally shut down because of a teensy-weensy headache. I promised myself that if I didn’t feel better after ten minutes of running, I could stop. Well, my headache didn’t completely vanish, but it retreated enough to let me enjoy my run. That or the sugar from my jaw breaker made me feel better.

After running, I weightlifted in the student sports complex. Can I just say that guys are really funny in the gym? I’ve weightlifted alone the last couple of weeks, and I observe the same guys every time I’m there; I think they live at the gym. Okay, this is what I don’t get: Guys will do a set of lifts, which often includes too much weight that throws off their form, then sit on the machine for ten minutes before doing another set. Now, I know that your body needs a break, but using one machine for twenty minutes because you’re recovering is just stupid.

Regardless, I had a great workout. It’s nice to be a girl who can do something on her own. Most girls who come around the weight machines do so with their other girl friends, and they don’t get much done either.

Call me the independent type.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. —1 Corinthians 1:18
