Blisters, Sunburns, & Finals Week–Ugh!*

May 12th, 2007

After needing new shoes ever since Christmas, we finally mustered up the money for a brand new pair of Sauconies! But my right heel slipped and I got blisters, but special thanks to my personal trainer friend Craig, who recommended a special lacing pattern and fixed the problem. After solving this problem, on a normal training run, something fishy got in my left shoe and wore this horrendous sore on my left Achilles tendon, which prevented about a week’s worth of quality running.

With the feet problems + the onset of finals week, staying on track (no pun intended) with my schoolwork, my training, and my marriage has been a challenge, but aside from my compulsive chocolate chip cookie eating, I’ve actually managed to put in some good miles this week (and I sunburned my forehead this morning).

Next week, I’m at a conference in Minneapolis and have already planned a four-mile route from my hotel (as recommended from Runner’s World), and the following week, I’m set to bask in the sun in Orlando while reading Jane Austen and Toni Morrison (I’ll be wearing sunscreen). I have runs planned at my resort, too. I can’t tell you how excited I am that school is nearly over and that I have a summer ahead of me of thesis writing and summer fun runs!

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. —1 Corinthians 1:18
