I am officially depressed. My entire fall schedule has fall through the floor. According to MarketWatch.com, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will not be released until Summer 2009. Originally scheduled for a Thanksgiving 2008 release, producers say the movie’s production schedule was completed on time but that the writer’s strike still affected part of the production schedule. Producers also say that because summer is a season for blockbusters and because Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix did so well last summer, a summer 2009 release will make the film available to the widest audience.
Translation: We know we’ll make a boat load of money and break all sorts of theater records by releasing the film in the summer, so we’re going to make our faithful fans wait two whole years between HP films. Two years for more Helena Bonham Carter, two years to see young Lily and James, two years to see a Horcrux. Although this is the biggest load of crap I’ve heard in a while, I guess I now have time to reread the entire series (again). And maybe LAM will be Stateside to watch it with me!

I have no idea where these photos originated, so I can’t give credit to the proper photographer, but these pictures are so cool that I had to share them. Remember the old phone cords from our childhoods? We had a few of those really long ones that could stretch from one end of the house to the other. Just thinking of them makes me thankful for cordless and cellular phones.
Anyway, some genius took some of these old phone cords and turned them in to art—sheep in fact!

I have no idea why it didn’t occur to me yesterday to wish my parents a happy anniversary on my blog. Instead I sent them an ecard, which I know is lame, but I suck at sending real cards in the mail. OK, pretty much I suck at anything that involves snail mail (or phone calls).

Wow! I can’t believe that at this time last summer, I had already read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Last summer was busy, and we’ve pretty much gone an entire year without any big Harry Potter news (aside from the whole Dumbledore-is-gay fiasco).
Today, though, the new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer was released! Finally! I’ve been hoping for glimpses of the new movie for months!
My fellow Harry Potter friends, clear your calendars in October and November because Harry Potter movie nights will commence soon enough (as will Harry Potter-themed treats)! I can’t wait!

Today is Father’s Day. I made the call to my dad this afternoon—you all know that I’m a horrible card sender. And I figured I should write up a little post about my dad because a) I love him, b) he’s awesome, and c) I wrote one for Mom on Mother’s Day. I can’t play favorites, you know.

I’ve always been an SUV/pickup kind of girl. Until now.
Note what I’ve been tooling around in all weekend. It’s red. It’s sporty. It corners like it’s on rails. Heck, it even has air conditioning!
After the rigmarole I’ve been through with my Blazer, I never thought I’d consider buying a Chevy again, but this baby has stolen my heart.
Unfortunately, I have to return to earth and return the Cobalt next week.

My mom and Aunt Kathy joined the Sheriff’s Posse in Henry County and are getting their horses ready to ride in a parade this summer. Last week, they made an inaugural ride in town, and here’s Mom’s account of their adventure:
Just had to share—my sister, Kathy O’Dell and I put another new horse experience under our belt earlier this evening. To many of you this may seem unimportant or easy, but it was a milestone for us.

I use RSS, and you should, too. That is the theme of today’s post, so I’ll be laying the peer pressure on pretty thick.
So what exactly is RSS? Well, it stands for really simple syndication. By using an application called a reader and adding subscriptions from your favorite news sites and blogs (hmm…A Fool of Myself comes to mind), the new content from those sites comes to you in your reader. You no longer have to remember all the sites you frequently read, go to them, and hope for new content; if a site has been updated, the new content will appear in your reader. (Come on. Everyone is doing it.)
Still confused? Watch this little video produced by CommonCraft.com to see how you can start using RSS within minutes. I would have made my own video, but I hate reinventing the wheel, and this one is super easy to understand:
To summarize the video, to get started with RSS, you need a reader (e.g. Google Reader, NewsGator, Bloglines, My Yahoo!, etc.). Once you have a reader, add subscriptions to your account by looking for and clicking on the orange RSS logo. That’s it! Just start reading! (I’m going to tell everyone how lame you are for not using RSS!)
If you have any questions about RSS or need help setting it up on your computer, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment. I’ll answer any and all RSS-related questions. (And remember, you’re not cool unless you’re using RSS.)

Last week, I wrote about my obsessive book collecting and my compulsive reading habits, and wouldn’t you know a great little post from Daily Writing Tips came through with a post for book lovers!
That’s right, they define all our favorite words that find their roots in the Greek word biblion: bibliography, bibliographer, bibliographic, bibliographical, bibliotheca, bibliolatry, bibliomania, bibliotaphe, biblioklept, bibliopole, and bibliomancy. I checked my American Heritage Dictionary, and the only words they left out were bibliofilm, bibliotherapy, and bibliotics, but they don’t have much to do with book loving.
Hope you enjoy learning about bibliomania as much as I do! Maybe one day I’ll get a book review or two up here…

The Barna Group released the results of its latest study on how churches use technology today. Even though Barna is on my bad list for not having an RSS feed, I still stay up to date on the studies they release. Today’s study was interesting to me because I work at a church and handle a lot of the technology.
