It’s raining in the Ozarks today. Feels like spring, which I guess for the next 20 or so days, it still is. I’m usually not a fan of summer. I hate being hot. I hate being sticky (and it’s always sticky in the Ozarks). And like most women, I’m thrilled with body in a bathing suit.
But I’m trying to turn over a new leaf this summer, and I’m embracing the warmth. Here are the top ten things I love about summer:
- Homemade ice cream
- Independence Day
- My birthday (August 20)
- Flip flops
- Tank tops
- Driving around town with my windows down and radio up
- How green the grass is right after it rains
- (Slightly) slower days at work
- Sonic slushes
- The smell of freshly-laid asphalt
OK, back to you. What do you love about summer?
1. Good weather to ride horses
2. The smell of fresh mowed hay
3. Ponytails (I hope my hair is long enough for one soon)
4. No school
5. More flexible schedules
6. Trail rides with family & friends
7. State Fair
8. Going back to bed – no alarm
9. Homemade ice cream – my recipe
10. Unfolding of God’s creation daily
Well since I hate summer more than barrel of rabid monkeys, I’ll give it a shot; no promises, though
10. Watermelon….and I mean daily
9.Being on the water. Lake, river, pool, no matter
8.Hanging in front of the firehouse in the evenings, watching the northside nightlife
7.Nailing the kids with a water hose
6.Cranking the AC low enough to freeze a side of beef
5.Counting the days till fall gets here, and the cool weather to go with it
4.A good bike ride at sunrise
3.Showering, like, four times a day
2.Throwing a few tri-tips on the smoker, making some homemade baked beans and enjoying a cold one with a few amigos
1.Taking vacations home to the ocean
I definitely agree with #6. The colder the house overnight, the better!
